What is Fasting?

Fasting is the spiritual discipline that completely or partially eliminates food and/or drink in order to spend time mealtimes in prayer for biblical purposes.

Fasting is a believer's voluntary abstinence from food for spiritual purposes.

What are the different types of fasts?

Normal: no food, only water or some other liquid.

Partial: limitation of the diet, but not abstention from all food (see Daniel 1:12; Matthew 3:4)

Absolute Fast: avoidance of all food and liquid.* (examples: Ezra 10:6; Acts 9:9)

NOTE: Please consult your physician before beginning any type of fast.

*Absolute fasts should only be done for a short period of time
