About Pastor Bruce W. Henderson, Jr.​
​
“Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him

Reverend Bruce Wayne Henderson, Jr. (Rev. Bruce Jr.) is the son of Reverend
Bruce Sr. and Minister Ceola Renee Henderson. He was educated in the Jefferson
County School System and graduated from Gardendale High School. He furthered
his education by attending and graduating from Stillman College (Tuscaloosa, AL).
He earned a Master’s Degree in Music from Jacksonville State University
(Jacksonville, AL). In 2026, Reverend Henderson will complete his doctoral studies at Liberty University (Lynchburg, VA) with a Doctor of Worship Studies.

Rev. Bruce Jr. responded to the call of God and began his preaching ministry on February 21, 2010. God truly blessed that ministry. He has been blessed to serve in many capacities in the church since the age of 10. First as a church musician, then as minister of music (starting at the age of 16), then as a church council member, Sunday school teacher, youth advisor, youth director, associate minister, media & outreach ministry leader, congregational care leader, and Bible study facilitator, and director of Christian education.

​Rev. Bruce Jr. has been blessed to preach throughout Jefferson and Walker counties, he has served as an interim pastor for his family's home church during the illness of the senior pastor and has preached many times in the city of Chicago, IL. During the COVID-19 pandemic, God blessed Rev. Henderson’s preaching and outreach through various social media platforms. In September of 2023, God gave Rev. Bruce Jr. the vision of “Moments w/ God” – a virtual worship experience. The virtual worship is at 5:30 am, Rev. Bruce Jr. shares Gospel videos, preaches an inspirational message, and leads the virtual audience in prayer as they prepare for their day.

Rev. Bruce Jr. is a board member and the Academic Dean for the Birmingham Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America (GMWA), Inc. Nationally, he serves as a faculty member, section leader, songwriter, and director. He is a member of the West Jefferson Chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). Rev. Bruce Jr. is also a member of the Birmingham Metropolitan Ministerial Conference.

Rev. Henderson is employed by Lawson State Community College as the Music Instructor/Choral Director. He previously served as a secondary choral educator for Birmingham City Schools and Jefferson County Schools.

Rev. Bruce Jr. was called to be the 18th pastor of New Home Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday, March 15, 2025. God’s vision for New Home through Rev. Henderson is focused on 3 pillars: Faith, Family, and Fellowship! It is through these pillars that he hopes to honor God where New Home will be a “Bible-believing, faith-following, family-fostering, and community-focused 21st century church”.
